Death on the Nile (2022)

A film doesn’t always have to be earth-shattering or cutting-edge or industry-changing, and the 2022 remake of Death on the Nile certainly isn’t. It’s old-fashioned to a fault, however that’s one of its immense charms.

Director/Star Kenneth Branagh returns as Agatha Christie’s famous detective Hercule Poirot, stylishly unraveling the identity of a murderer on a fashionable river cruise in Egypt. That’s all the plot you really need to know, and, frankly, probably the plot you anticipated. There are some modern additions that would have been way outside Dame Agatha’s world view, but those are mostly unobtrusive, and usually offer unexpected twists.

Along the way expect delectably over the top acting from the all-star suspects (particularly Jennifer Saunders who seems to be having the time of her life chewing the scenery), some stunning visual imagery and an amazing amount of murderous fun.

Is It Worth The Watch? I went in not counting on a lot from this movie, frankly, but was delighted to find a classic, classy and delicious mystery.
